Video/Images
If you are just looking for a video or image, such as a video to help you learn new knitting techniques, the Hobbies & Crafts Reference Center database makes it easy to find multimedia items relating to arts and crafts.
At the top of the main page, there is a link for 'Videos/Images.' Select this link. (See image below for where to locate this link on the main page.)

You will be directed to the 'Video/Image' search page. Here, we can use the options towards the bottom of the page to limit our search. Check the box on the bottom-left hand side of the screen for 'Videos' if you're just looking for videos. You can select images only or select types of images, such as black and white images only, by checking the boxes found on the bottom-right hand side of the screen. See the image below to find out how to use this search limiters.
Sample Video Search
I am going to perform a Video search for 'knitting.' To begin, I will limit my results by selecting 'Hobbies & Crafts Video Collection.' I will next type in the keyword 'knitting' into the search bar. As you can see from the image below, as I type in the word 'knitting,' other common search terms that are similar to knitting are suggested, and I could choose one of these other options at this time. I am just going to stick to 'knitting' for this search, so I will select 'search.'
The search returned 22 results. The date of the video and the length are provided. If you have created an account, you could use the blue folder on the right-hand side of the page to print, e-mail or save your search results. There is an image that accompanies each video. If we wanted to switch and just search for images, or add images to our search results, this can be down by selecting the appropriate boxes on the left-hand bottom side of the screen under 'Database.'
If we hover over the icon that looks like a piece of paper with a magnifying glass (located next to the blue folder on the right-hand side of the page), a pop-up box will appear with more information on the title. The title (which is a clickable link that will take you to the full search results page for the item), the date, subjects, an abstract (a summary of what the video is about), the name of the database the video came from (in this case, Hobbies & Crafts Video Collection,) and the length of the video are included. You also have the option to get the citation here. See the image below for a preview of this box.
If we select one of these videos, such as the first video that turned up in our search, 'How to Choose Knitting Yarn,' it will take us to the video and more information about the title. Press the play button in the middle of the video to watch the video right in your browser without leaving the Hobbies & Crafts Reference Center page. Underneath the video, information such as publish,r subjects and keywords are provided.
You will notice that the suggested keywords and subjects are in blue - these are clickable links! Click on any of these words, and the database will take you to another page with results of more videos that have the same keywords or subjects.
Along the right-hand side of the page you will notice the 'Tools' options. From here, you can e-mail, print, save, cite, or get the URL link for this individual search result.

Inserting Images into a Word Document
Once you have found an image you would like to use for a homework assignment, research project, or just for fun, you can include the image or video in a Microsoft Word document.
1. To begin, you will open the Microsoft Word program.
2. For this example, I will be inserting a diagram from the book How to Paint: Watercolours. This book is available through the Hobbies & Crafts Reference Center database.
3. You can save the image by right-clicking on the image and selecting 'save as.' Try to remember what name you give the file, such as 'diagram,' and in what folder you have saved it.
